Featuring Virginia Tech Extension Specialist Dr. Leonie Jacob

 

Hosted by Appalachian State University Sustainable Development Department (faculty/staff/students) Dr. Anne Fanatico, Todd Rudicill (Farm Manager) and Jim McLaughlin (Cornerstone Farm Ventures)

Learn about on-farm poultry slaughter and packaging with hands-on instruction. We focus on animal welfare, organic methods, and food safety for poultry slaughter on small, diversified farms. We will slaughter SD Farm pasture-raised chickens (40) using our mobile processing unit (MPU). Learn about requirements for exempt slaughter in NC (1,000-bird exemption). Students in our farm classes will join us.
