Poultryman 27” Plucker and Turkey Plucker

Operating Instructions

INSTALLATION

Remove picker from shipping crate and inspect machine for shipping damage. If damage is detected, notify the delivering freight carrier immediately. Shipping damage is the responsibility of the carrier to the purchaser.

1. Connect cold water to 3/4" hose. An ample cold water supply is essential to insure maximum efficiency from your picker. Water pressure should be a minimum of 30 pounds per square inch.

2. Plug electrical cord into 110 Volt service.

3. It is important that the birds are not killed a long time before scalding and plucking.

4. Always scald at 147° Fahrenheit.

-- young birds 50 seconds

-- old fowl 70 seconds,

-- then pluck for 50 seconds or until clean.

As with any type picker, a proper scald is essential. If when picking, it is apparent that the birds are not scalded sufficiently, we recommend a longer scalding time rather than a higher temperature.

Maintenance

1. Drain spray head each season to protect from freezing.

2. Locate grease fittings (2) under shroud and grease every 100 hours.

3. If water supply contains large amounts of mineral or salts, (hard water) it may be necessary to disassemble and clean the water spray head periodically.

4. Change gear box oil every 6 months. Due to the extreme environments poultry processing equipment is used in we recommend AMSOIL Synthetic gear oils and grease.

Poultryman Rotary Scalder -- 60,000 BTU

Operating Instructions

Remove scalder from shipping crate and inspect machine for shipping damage. If damage is detected, notify the delivering freight carrier immediately. Shipping damage is the responsibility of the carrier to the purchaser.

1. Plug cord into 110 service.

2. Fill scalder - to shaft - with water.

3. Set the thermostat to 145° Fahrenheit.

4. Light the burner. See below for instructions.

S. Make sure the wire rack is on top of the shaft to start.

6. Set the dial on the timer to 50 for young birds or to 70 for the older ones.

7. Turn the switch to ON and the birds will rotate for the length of the set time.

8. To reset simply turn switch to OFF and back to ON.

To Light The Burner.

To light the pilot depress the ON/OFF/PILOT knob slightly and turn it to the PILOT setting. Now, push in on the same knob with one thumb while using a match to ignite the pilot until the pilot lights. (Pilot is located underneath the scalder by the burner, it has an opening pointed toward a cylindrical object know as the thermocouple)  The thumb pressure holds the gas line open until the pilot flame can heat up the thermocouple, so you must keep the knob depressed for about 45 seconds to give the thermocouple time to start generating before you can discontinue the thumb pressure. If the pilot goes out when you remove your thumb, the thermocouple didn't heat up sufficiently to hold the gas line open: wait a couple of minutes and repeat the process until the pilot stays lit with your thumb removed. Once the pilot remains lit when you stop pressing the knob in, turn the knob to the ON position. With the pilot going and the knob turned to the ON position, the burner will ignite and maintain temperature

The 1st time you light the unit for the season it may take up to 10 minutes before the pilot lights. Continue to hold the pilot knob in until the flame ignites.

Maintenance

There is one grease fitting on either end of the main shaft, grease every 100 operating hours.

For best results clean the burner annually: using an air hose blowout the debris from the burner. A blue flame generates the most heat. If the flame is very tall and yellow you may need to take the burner off of the scalder and clean out each hole using a 3/32" drill. Drill each hole out to remove the rust.

******************************************************************************

In the event the rack does not stop level, the limit switch may need adjustment. By loosening the front mounting bolt, you can slide the front of the limit switch up or down. Push down for earlier stop or up for later stop. Be sure to tighten the mounting bolt securely before resuming operation.
