Grasstravaganza 2008
Grasstravaganza March 28-29, 2008
Grasstravaganza 2008 Welcomes Congressmen to Huge Northeast EventExcitement is mounting for grass-based agriculture and its benefits to farmers, consumers, the environment and rural communities. The Grasstravaganza planning committee is pleased to welcome U.S. Congressman Maurice Hinchey (22nd District) and U.S. Congressman Michael Arcuri (24th District) to our Friday night, March 28th banquet that will showcase local grass-fed products and farms. Representative Hinchey’s District spans eight counties from the Hudson Valley to the Finger Lakes region. Now serving in his eighth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, Mr. Hinchey is a member of the House Appropriations Committee, which allocates funds in the federal budget. On that panel, he serves on the Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies; the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; and the Subcommittee on Financial Services. Mr. Hinchey has been a strong advocate for the integrity of American agriculture, focusing on protecting the family farm and the safety of the food supply. He continues to be a firm and effective defender of America's natural resources. Representative Arcuri’s District spans eleven counties from the foothills of the Adirondacks to the Susquehanna River Basin. The first term Congressman knows first-hand how important it is to ensure that the next generation isn’t saddled with debt or threatened by unclean air and water. Since taking office, Congressman Arcuri has cosponsored two bills, which passed the House specifically designed to increase the research, production, and implementation of alternative energy sources. He has been very supportive of grazing and local food initiatives as well. Both Mr. Arcuri and Mr. Hinchey are fighting the proposed NYRI’s power line with legislation and community action. Invited guests include: Congressman James Walsh, Assemblyman Clifford Crouch, Assemblyman Gary Finch, Assemblyman Bill Magee, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, Senator Tom Libous, Senator David Valesky, NYS Ag.
