The MRT is used primarily at farmers markets. The unit can be custom built to your specifications. Units contain freezers, deli style display cases, refrigerators, sinks and other custom units. The MRT can be built on a flat bed trailer or in an enclosed trailer.
Cornerstone Farm has designed and built a self-contained refrigerator/freezer trailer MRT (Mobile Refrigerator Trailer) which can be towed by a pickup truck. Many Farmers Markets would like to make meat products available to patrons but most producers do not have a method in place to display and store refrigerated or frozen product. The MRT can be towed to Farmers Markets or other venues to service retail trade. CLICK HERE FOR PICTURES OF OUR LATEST UNIT. UNIT COST IS $8000.00 To insure compliance with state regulations, we met with representatives from New York State Ag & Markets for approval before the unit was built. The 16 foot trailer has: a 4 foot refrigerated display case; a large capacity freezer; a chest type unit which can be used as a freezer or refrigerator; a large stainless steel table; certified weighing scale; and a generator to power the equipment at a market or area where there is no electricity. A 1/2 ton pickup truck is necessary to tow the unit. One way to make the unit more affordable is for 4-5 producers to work together using the unit at several different Farmers Markets in an area. For example, producers of beef, lamb, pork and poultry could place their products in inventory in the freezers and then have one of the producers go to a different farmers market each week staffing the unit and selling all the products available. Each producer would then in turn take the unit to a farmers market in their area. On the weeks the unit is not at a given market, orders could be taken for delivery the next time the trailer is scheduled to be in the area. Details on sharing expenses and payment to each producer would have to be worked out by those producers who are collectively marketing their products.
