NEW Duck Wax heater

Duck Wax

Available in 10 lb slab

Every waterfowl hunter is faced with the challenge of removing pinfeathers from their game catch.  Our duck wax makes this task simple!

Our Junior’s Duck Wax development was sparked by an avid duck hunter.  He was looking to have a blend developed that would peel off of the waterfowl in a smooth strip rather than smaller patches of wax.  After many test blends, we have come up with a wonderful solution to the problems that may occur from using a straight paraffin wax.

To begin the process, you want to first dry pluck as many feathers as possible.  Next, heat up a container of water until the temperature reads about 160°F, which is the optimal application temperature for our wax, which melts at 145°F.  If the water is boiling it is too hot and will not allow for a nice and even coating of wax.

A good ratio of wax to water is 25% wax & 75% water.  While the water is heating up, you can pour the beads of Junior’s Duck Wax into your pot.  Allow for the wax to melt and surface to the top.  Dip the bird in the wax for a few seconds.  Allow the wax to harden, after which you can peel off the wax, down, and remaining pinfeathers in nice, smooth strips.

If you find that the wax coating on the bird is too thin, you may be dipping at too high of temperatures.  Simply cool down the wax & water mixture and your results will improve.  If your coating is too thick, you need to increase the temperature of the wax & water mixture.

Junior’s Duck Wax is available in an easy-to-use wax bead format that you can simply pour into your melting unit.

Our duck wax is in compliance with FDA regulations for both direct and indirect food contact.

Based on an average sized duck you will use approximately 1 pound of wax for every 10 birds. The wax is reusable by reheating and removing the lose feathers.

Available in 10 pound slabs. (no longer available in beads)
